Awesome finish to a great start...for a teen reading book.

I really enjoyed the ending to this story; however, I wished it had gone a little more into the future..epilogue - one year later...then tell us. Unless you have read the first book, stop reading and go back and read it. There are way too many answers given to questions asked in the first book. A little more research on electric fences needed to be done, and I get it, it's fiction, but keep some semblance of real world. I really liked how the author closed the loop on everything in the story from the passage of right to the bad guys losing the war.

I hoped for more
By What's Beyond Forks?
This book takes off right where the last one ended. There is a lot of character change in this book. I can't just say character growth, although there was quite a bit of that too, but the characters themselves changed in many ways. I felt like there was a lot of the same in this book that we already had in the last book. It was still entertaining, but I was hoping for more.

More than just a souvenir

I went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2016, and was lucky enough to have Peter Sabella as tour guide. I expected expertise on the history, geography, archaeology and Biblical background to the holy sites, but was amazed and delighted at Peter's own deep faith and spiritual contribution to our group's reflections. Our tour was necessarily taken at a fairly brisk pace, so this book affords a chance to revisit and recollect upon the experience in tranquillity. It is a wonderful resource for anyone preparing to make a pilgrimage and, for those who know they will not be able to make the journey in person, it provides a real alternative which can be revisited and pondered over again and again.

acquiring this book is excellent "food for thought"

I went to the Holy Land in February and whilst on the Pilgrimage, had the occasion to acquire Mr. Sabella's book, "Closed for Renovation".
I am savouring the experience of learning about my own personal road to Emmaus, by virtue of the fact that Mr. Sabella's book is inspiring enough to wish to embark on the same journey. The book is thought provoking, induces one to deep thought and gives one an insight into Jesus's life. I am only halfway through the book .. I am savouring every page and taking my time. I put it aside after a further chapter and ponder about what I have read. I came back from the Holy Land a new person and transformed. The book enables me to cast my mind back to what I experienced and has whetted my desire to go on learning as much as I can. The book is a must! But even for someone who has not been to the Holy Land, nor will have a chance to go to there, acquiring this book is excellent "food for thought". I shall most certainly recommend it to friends. Mr. Sabella will turn your adventure into a true pilgrimage with his scripture choices, prayers and beautiful reflections. This book was published just after my return from the Holy Land. I had the great privilege of Mr. Sabella being one of my tour guides. Through the book I was able to experience once again the deep spiritual experiences of walking on the same path that Jesus had walked. Peter is thoughtful and reflective and brings the Bible to life through his words.

Clinging to the Law of Averages

Have you ever run into the sort of person who talks about things they know nothing about, but talks on and on and on, apparently in the hope that if they keep talking for long enough then the law of averages means they must get at least some of it right?

That's what I felt I was up against when I was reading this book.

Firstly, it is badly laid out, by which I mean that it has no obvious flow other than (I guess) the order in which things popped into the authors' heads.

Secondly, a significant amount of the material has little or nothing to do with NLP - like the "Wheel of Life" and the stuff on PTSD - and quite a lot the material, whether about NLP or not, is at best ambiguous and at worst plain inaccurate.

Thirdly, the frequent, pointless repetition of quite basic material, and the inclusion of the irrelevant material, means that a whole lot of genuine NLP material gets left out.

In the case of the meta programs, for example, only six meta programs are included, and even those aren't explained particularly well. Indeed, at one point in the book the authors claim that all meta programs ("metaprograms", as they call them) work along a sliding scale. Which clearly is NOT true of meta programs such as the "Work Preference Filter", the "Primary Interest Filter", and especially not in the case of the "In Time/Through Time" or "Time Storage Filter" meta program, which the authors confuse with "Time Lines" as in Time Line Therapy.

Worst of all, there doesn't seem to have been any attempt to edit the book once it was complete. Thus, for example, there are several places where a topic flagged up as being covered "later in this chapter" actually turns up on the very next page. Likewise the text itself is inconsistent, as in:

"We get very good at one style of thinking and processing information and let the rest of our senses lie dormant in a rusty heap."

Not only is this not true, psychologically speaking, but the authors flatly contradict themselves less than three pages later:

"As human beings we naturally blend a rich and heady mix of these three main dimensions, yet we tend to have a preference for one mode over the others."

So, "rusty heap" or "rich and heady mix"?

If you know enough to recognise which description is more accurate then you already know far more about NLP than this book will tell you. And if you don't know enough to weed out the nonsense, I'm afraid you're likely to end up with a pretty confused view of the subject if you read this book.

Definitely one of the worst books on NLP I've read.

A very good beginners guide to NLP for non (self-styled) NLP-Gurus!

Of all the NLP books I've read (several dozen) this is the clearest and most accessible entry-level guide to NLP.

While I am not going to comment on any other review, I hope I can say that once you've read this book, you'll be able to tell quite a lot about all the reviewers from they way they write, and from what they've written! They really do expose their own metaprograms rather elegantly (read the book to find out how!)

The Dummies style does not suit everyone - it's exciting, captures the attention, it's upfront and full of interesting anecdotes and asides - and as a result, I actually read all of my copy, and dip into it on a regular basis!

The material may extend beyond the boundaries of what may be regarded as "core" NLP - in my book, that's a bonus. The people who are buying this book are not, in my opinion, looking for an academic treatise (there are plenty of those!) rather a practical introduction to a subject that is not within the mainstream of psychology (yet).

Bottom line - if you're looking to expand beyond basic NLP Practitioner knowledge and practice, then you'll find this book fun even if you don't learn anything new. Otherwise, this is the perfect introduction which will lead you on to discover fascinating new worlds of possibility, achievement and fulfilment.

I heard that 50% of all books are put aside after Chapter 1 - this isn't one of them.

Appropriate Title- this book will indeed make you a

I purchased this book, and within reading the first 130 pages, I returned it. This is a general mishmash of some key NLP information, combined with pointless "inspirational" anecdotes that don't show how to apply the techniques (which even the authors recommend that a reader could skip and not miss a beat).

Now, I am no "expert" on NLP (not yet at least!) but I understood enough to have instinctively felt that something was wrong and that I was wasting my time. So I went to the Honest Abe Website quoted above and learned my instincts were correct. [...]This excerpt was purposefully taken out of context, because in the following lines, indeed the entire review, this book gets intensely criticized for its poor research and actual errors. I want to thank Mr. Bradbury for a well researched and precise review which saved my time, effort, and brain from a poor book.

D.S. ALLAN, a Cambridge M.A., is a science historian specializing in paleogeography, particularly in the Arctic regions. A science teacher for many years, he is a skilled cartographer and has made a special study of evidence for climatic and landform change in recent geological times. He lives in Basildon, Essex, England. J.B. DELAIR, B.Sc., is an Oxford-based geologist with wide international and commercial field experience. An anthropologist, he has a special interest in animal and plant distribution and in tribal traditions. He is the Museum Curator of Geology at University of Southampton, England.

He who laughs last, laughs best!

Some comments about this book:

1.) A book with an odd or even incorrect theory can be of enormous utility if it illustrates, documents and footnotes a large number of scientific anomalies. Aside from the many books of William Corliss, this book must be near the top of the heap in that category. You can enjoy this book and even cherish it without accepting the specific theory that the book proposes as an explanation of all the anomalies it reports.

2.) The book proposes a cosmic cataclysm about 11,500 BC. In order to get a wonderful primer on how these authors may indeed have the "best and last laugh" even regarding the essential correctness of their theory..., use Google to find a set of videos on YouTube with these search terms: Comet Catastrophe 12,500 BP (before present). There are seven video segments with almost an hour of material from a recent, (May 2007) meeting of professional geologists (the American Geophysical Union meeting). Watch these video segments, and then buy a copy of Cataclysm! Then also buy the Book by Richard Firestone. If you buy and read both of these books, I think you will agree that some of the reviewers who have slammed Cataclysm may find themselves changing their minds. Yes there were ice ages, but there were also sudden extreme events - such as the one that brought on the so-called Younger Dryas, a 1200 year cold spell before the end of the last ice age.

3.) In the 4th segment of YouTube video: Comet Catastrophe, note that one of the scientists answers a question from the audience about whether there were any North American Indian legends that might contain recollections of the event. His answer is yes. And if you buy Cataclysm!, you will be able to read alot of excerpts of such stories. And if those excerpts intrigue you (as they did me), the copious footnotes will help you find the original source materials.

What other books should you buy if you find that you like this one? Buy all the books by Irish Dendrochronologist Mike Baillie and his co-authors. These books will introduce you to how long tree-ring chronologies are telling us about several abrupt, global climate disasters in the past 5000 years that may have been caused by impacts or interactions with comets. Buy a used, hardcover copy of Ragnarok by Ignatius Donnelly, wherein you can read a wonderful summary of evidences from human mythologies that led Donnelly to opine (in 1880 !!!) that Earth has been hit by a comet at least once during the tenure and written memory of mankind. (Donnelly was so far ahead of his time, that he is still ahead of ours...) And then familiarize yourself with the wonderful body of work on the K/T boundary through a tome like GSA Special Publication 356 or something like it. The reason for the latter is because Firestone and his colleagues are going to precipitate the same type of revolution in paleontology that Alvarez and his co-workers wrought in the 1980's by hypothesizing and then proving that Earth was struck by a speeding asteroid. Alot of the evidence for the Younger Dryas event is similar, and some of the same investigators who found critical chemical clues in the K/T boundary layers are doing so again in the end-Clovis "black mat." Also, I recommend all the books by Clube, Napier and Bailey - most especially Cosmic Winter, Cosmic Serpent and the Origin of Comets.

Lastly, keep your eyes open for a Discovery Channel special with a similar title: Comet Catastrophe. This special, which has apparently already aired in Canada, will feature Dr. Dallas Abbott and a colleague Dee Breger in program that will discuss powerful evidence of an Indian Ocean impact about 5000 years ago that left an 18 mile crater under 2.5 miles of water, and a 1/4 mile thick tsunami deposit 45 kilometers across on the southern shores of Madagascar.

So what does all this mean? It means that the surface of the Earth is a more dangerous place than most astronomers (especially on this side of the Atlantic) think. It means that there have been significant impact events at least once and perhaps dozens of times during the written memory of men on the Earth. It means that it would be really smart for us to pay attention to all these scientific developments and to respond in thoughtful ways to the warning being delivered by living voices, and also the warnings delivered to us in many myths and legends.

Great, excellent, provocative! I rate this book 5++++. To anyone considering buying this book, totally ignore critiques citing statements like "pseudo science" "balderdash", yada, yada, yada, etc. Such readers are obviously incapable of thinking outside the orthodox box. As has been said before, "science(and other discipines)progress funeral by funeral"! The research for this book is impeccable. The authors, in addition to their monumental citations of other sicentists, historians, etc, have developed an extremely interesting hypothesis. Well worth the cost and the time it takes to devour all the details. And, finally thank goodness, they demonstrate that not all educated people think world wide myths and legends are based on fabrication. Like, duh . . . .
If you are interested in alternative theory as compared to the same ol' BS indicative of close mindedness, I know you will love this book.

The best book I have seen on the subject

I am very interested in earth's past and the untold history of our species. And this book surpasses everything I have seen to date. It's erudite, and comprehensive. The author's break new ground in many areas.

I can't relate to the debunker's claim of pseudo science. That's become the mantra of dogmatists, of late, those who prefer not to look at the anomalous data. The flowers found in the mouths of the frozen Siberian mammoths and mastodons and other evidence of flora adapted to a temperate climate rules out the possibility that some of the carcasses date to 30-45,000 years. No, 11,500 years BP must be the actual date. The idea they were frozen mummies does not compute with the anecdotal reports that the flesh was fresh enough for humans and dogs to eat. The debunker has attempted to trivialize this extremely important evidence. Also, the debunker fails to understand the distinction between precession and the earth's 23 degree tilt. The two are separate characteristics.

But back to the authors: one of their biggest contributions is their provocative suggestion that the earth's axis was more vertical to the ecliptic (the plane of the orbiting planets in the solar system)prior to the cataclysm. They suggest the earth gained its 23 1/2 degree tilt in the encounter with Marduk (Phaeton). This could explain how the polar regions were more temperate before, because a vertical earth (they assert) would have a smaller polar cap. We will have to wait and see if this turns out to be correct.

I especially loved the way the authors compare and relate the geological record with the record of the great literary epics, the Edda, the Kalevala, the Avesta, Vedas, Bible, etc. Their understanding of the classics is phenomenal -- and asute. I learned a great deal and will rely on their interpretations in the future.

I do have several critical comments. I was disapointed that the authors never discussed Charles Hapgood's contribution regarding the shifting of earth's crust. They mention this as one of the effects of an encounter with Marduk, but no not include adequate discussion. A crustal shift would of course explain why the orientation of the pyramids and ancient sites of meso America are aligned east of north -- a fact no one has ever explained. Obviously, these sites are older than N-S aligned Giza and thus are human testaments that the crust really did move.

The authors are in my opinion wrong that all of earth's mountain ranges were low hills before the Phaeton disaster. If this were true, how to explain the alpine flora: wild flowers, liverworts, grasses, mosses and lichens? I agree that much mountain building occurred at this time, but not all.

Nor do the authors ever finally succeed in explaining the Greenland ice sheet. It remains a mystery.

The author's astutely conclude that a comet could not have caused the Phaeton disaster, because a cube of ice does not have the necessary mass to cause the gravity induced effects. However, Allan and Delair are unaware of scientist Jim McCanney's Plasma Discharge Comert Model, which is in process of revolutionizing our understanding of comets. If McCanney is correct, comets are not dirty snowballs, but are asteroidal and can be extremely large. We will know more next summmer when NASA's Deep Impact space probe causes a collision with the comet Tempel 1 -- an attempt to confirm the ice model. When NASA fails to find the ice, it will be time to junk the current model. No doubt about it, Phaeton was a comet!

Despite these criticisms, I heartily recommend this book. We have barely begun to understand the mind boggling power and wonder of the cosmos...

Cliffhanger.

War is changing in Forstchen's world. Good! This sort of war without prisoners, without mercy, a war of total anihilation, gets to be a little more modern still by the end of "Terrible Swift Sword." Keane will make a decision that will buy his Republic time at the price of tens of thousands of lives. The enemy will also understand that things cannot go back to be the way they were before the Yankees arrived. "Terrible Swift Sword" moves fast, like all the other noves in the series, and is an absolute cliffhanger. Again the Cartha are trapped (part their fault, part fate) between mortal enemies who will use them mercilessly to gain advantage. And Muzta of the Tugars will become one of the most interesting aliens ever. The Republic hangs from a thread. The folly of its leaders is balanced by their intelligence during the worst of times. One of the best things about this series is that, in spite of showing humans as the "good" guys, the author presents many of our species as what we are so good at producing: murderous, selfish, cowardly men who have a tough time accepting responsibility for freedom. This book prepares the way for an epic fourth installment of scorched earth. Excellent.

Fun Science Fiction War Story

The Merki, evil creatures of the Horde (or Chosen People), are invading the nation of Rus. It is up to Colonel Andrew Keane of the Union's 35th Maine to lead his troops into battle and defend his new country. The Merki are enemies who consider human beings to be nothing more than cattle and/or pets, they must wipe out Keane and his Union soldiers. Interestingly enough, the Merki are also fighting for their way of life. As twisted as it seems, you almost feel sorry for them, if the Merki were a little less gruesome you could come to admire their culture. However, the Merki dine on human flesh and perform weird ritualistic murder/torture on their human cattle. In order to defeat the Merki, Colonel Keane must drag Rus into a mechanized 19th century industrial society. To make matters worse the Merki create their own invention, a dirigible like balloon. This leaves the humans behind the technological curve because the Merki's airforce can perform airborne reconnaissance and aerial bombing raids. One of the best chapters in the book revolves around the invention of the balloon by the human population. Forstchen adds a lot of interesting ideas to the war.
"Terrible Swift Sword" by William R. Forstchen is a neat blend of science fiction, fantasy and historical fiction. It is the 3rd installment of "The Lost Regiment" series. Forstchen is a good writer and I like his style. The story has a quick pace and the author uses snappy dialog to keep the plot moving. So far I enjoy the series and I recommend the books to readers that enjoy some science fiction mixed with historical fiction. My only criticism is that in "Rally Cry", the first "Lost Regiment" installment, Forstchen included a map which helped me visualize the battle field, however, here no map is included.

"Once more unto the breach" but has time finally run out?

The roar of cannons blazes across a battlefield strewn with the smoking wreck of two mortal enemies. Armies grapple in a deadly war for survival. The resounding clash of arms once again explodes across the nighmare world of Valennia as the proud but fragile Republic of the Rus, now firmly in league with the Roum Alliance and thousands of Cartha that have managed to escape death under the Merki occupation, fight in a brave but deperate war against immeasurable odds. Having failed in their attempt to passify the Rus through the manipulation of the traitor, Cromwell, the Merki are now forced to press an uneasy truce with their rivals in order to pursue an invasion of the renegade humans and crush them once and for all. "Terrible Swift Sword" matches the previous books in the series in all its fiery intensity and spectacular glory; the continuation of a chronicle of a world at war, of a people allied against tyranny, and of a cause fighting to stay alive.
