The book reads like a kid wrote it. Repeating the same information in a few places, bad sectence structure, and not a very helpful guide. A lot of the info from this book is common sense. Not worth paying $5

This book is really more of a pamphlet. It's generic and not very helpful. It offers some good ides, but not many. It could have been written for any type of dog and is often not specific to the Malinois. Very misleading.

Disappointed with content.

We purchased this book in preparation of getting our Belgian Malinois puppy. I was very disappointed when I read the book, that there wasn't more detail about the breed. It seemed like he was talking very broadly about puppies in general, no specific breed.
There were so many spelling and grammatical errors throughout the book as well, which made it slightly irritating to read. I felt like I was grading someone's paper.
When I got farther into the book as well, they had duplicated many of the chapters. So the book was far shorter than I actually thought it was going to be!
Overall, I would have rather gone and explored my local bookstore for something! It was not very helpful!

Law Students in VC classes

This book is an excellent primer for law students in VC/entrepreneurial finance classes, and I think is currently the most popular text for those kinds of classes. Even if it's not your required text, I'd recommend it; while the price is high, it's presented very well, and is probably the most concise text I've found on the subject. And attorneys who work in the field have told me that it's an invaluable desk reference. It is geared towards the attorney, so non-lawyers might find it cumbersome. But all in all, if you want to know the law in this area, this book's for you.

I read this book twice (not the appendix though, which is the support for the text), it incorporates tax law and practice, GAAP, and SEC issues with Venture Capital and similar transactions. It explains how to start a fund, how to structure deals, and how to exit the investment as well as familiarize the reader with the VC industry. Very detailed book and easy reading.

The hushed tones of this poetry book describe the lives of generations of owls, who have lived in a redwood barn for "one hundred years/ at least." Johnston (An Old Shell: Poems of the Galapagos) evokes the rhythms of an owl's life through repetition of words and lines, equating the duration of the barn's existence with the infinite expanse of wheat, echoed in a spread of golden sky and grasses ("where wheat and sky/ are one"). The circular text revolves around nature's cycles, as when "one by one owls/ wake up/ and blink/ and hunt for mice/ while moons swell/ and shrink." In watercolor and pencil art, Ray (Jackrabbit) contrasts the glowing, golden tones of the wheat-filled barn with the cool blues of night. Ray does not shy away from the owl's predatory instincts; two illustrations show the fowl firmly grasping a mouse. PreSchool-Grade 4-Johnston has created a tribute to the common barn owl. Her creatures doze "in the scent of wheat" and leave "the barn through a bale of light." Golden wheat tones suffuse Ray's watercolor-pencil and paint art. Author and illustrator run lyrical, but they don't lose sight of the bird's daily bread-the mouse. The center spread wordlessly depicts an owl aloft, a mouse dangling lifelessly from its beak, wings cutting through a dark night lit only with the merest sliver of moon. Elsewhere, as grown owls bring the newest offering to their loft-bound babies, sharp eyes will pick out the skeletal remains of previous meals. None of this is gory, just matter-of-fact: "Owls have hunted in this place, mice have hidden in this wheat one hundred years at least." The poetry and paintings will make children want to learn more about these mysterious creatures. No humans intrude on this venture into barn owl life and the species is different, but the book is a natural lead in to Jane Yolen's Owl Moon (Philomel, 1987).

A quiet, gentle story with good info on barn owls

This is another great bedtime story. The rhythmic words and repeating phrases roll off the tongue naturally in slow, calm tones. The watercolor paintings echo the quietness of the owls' lives. The minimal text gives a general feel for barn owls' lives. Simple and lovely.

Sweet, gentle bedtime story

My toddler son adores this book, and so do I. The text is melodic and engaging enough to be both captivating and interesting, but not dull in the way so many children's books can be. The illustrations are not as good as the text in my opinion, but still very good and intriguing for young children. This book quickly became a favorite bedtime story in our house, and is one I recommend highly to any parent whose child loves owls or animals in gerneral.

A truly magical masterpiece

It's been two years since I first read the book and during moments of solitude, I recall the beauty of this book and it puts a smile on my face. As someone interested in writing myself, I can imagine how Tejpal would've chuckled at how brilliant each and every line of his book were and how it would fill the reader with awe. It would be blasphemous to analyze this book in a reductionist way because of how well it all fits together. But I will say this, the language used is very inspiring to any budding or even well-established writer. The plot is flawless. The characters are mythical, but not in any bad way. The premise is just brilliant. But the best of all is the conclusion, the message.

My favorite line in the entire book, at least from one reading of it, is this paraphrasing of it (I can't remember the exact sequence of words right now) - "When you see greatness from afar you want to genuflect to it. At close, you just want to nail it to the cross."
