Time-Of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) is a new ultrasonic technique that gained popularity in ultrasonic NDT community as a precise sizing tool because of its ability to provide very accurate amplitude-independent positioning and sizing with a high probability of detection for a large variety of defects, with a relatively low false alarm rate and lower cost. This book addresses the problems associated with TOFD inspection, automatic data processing and interpretation of TOFD data as a comprehensive automatic interpretation aid for the detection, positioning, sizing and characterisation of defects in TOFD data and several innovative signal and image processing have been proposed and implemented to great success. Image processing, pattern recognition and artificial neural networks are combined to provide a near real-time pre-assessment of a given scan by applying the procedures and criteria recommended by the adopted standards and codes for detection, sizing, positioning and classification. In this book, TOFD is used for the inspection of welds in steel structures. Furthermore, the proposed inspection procedures for railway track is presented.

This book has taught me so much ( and I haven't even completed tit .. almost though)!
Times change, people don't .. Well at least not on a fundamental/developmental level. This book was originally written in the 1940's I believe .. it's amazing how accurate and applicable much of the information is for today ... 2011 .. three quarters of a century later.
Dr. Gesell spells out the characteristics of each stage of development in such a way that it's almost a go-to guide for infant/child rearing. It truly emphasizes (by example) how important it is to lay a proper foundation in the early development. Discusses how various environmental & external factors influence the development/evolution of a child's personality.
Really goes into great detail with various critical phases/stages of child development, along with behavioral characteristics to help guide the parents. Focusing on birth to 5 years. I'd purchase it for all first time parents if I could.
Provocative, well written, applicable & scientifically based! Totally Recommend!

Based on a longitudinal study of children starting in the 1930's, this book describes behavior of children at certain ages. It does not tell you how to raise your child. It simply tells you what to expect at 3 months, two years, eight years, etc. Instead of perceiving your child's behavior as peculiar or bad (and therefore punishing the child), the parent can see the behavior as normative. It enables acceptance of your child as he or she is and should be.

almost perfect but....

this was by one of my favorite authors cleo cordell I have all her historical erotica too bad she stopped writing but I digress the story is set in victorian england my favorite erotic setting next to the eighteenth she is unconventional headstrong and proud with a sensual nature but she is a virgin she wishes to change this unhappy state it takes a long while but boy does she ever first she has her miad tell her of her sexual expliots this excites her the man she is interested in is older by a dacade than her ninteen years but all they do is fight my one compliant is they dont have sex until the end of the book in the meantime she has escapades with several people one a ship captian and even some natives and she is involved with both sexes this is what I love a bisexual heroine and as a black man I love how she gave no regard to race considering how racist and classist the english could be the most beautiful man in the book is an african but all ends well she becomes a new independant woman unfortunately the book ends before she gets back to england and there was not enough anal play but I highly recommend this novel a great work

About the Author

Randall Arendt is a land-use planner, site designer, author, lecturer, and an advocate of "conservation planning". He received his B.A. degree from Wesleyan University (magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and his M.Phil. degree in Urban Design and Regional Planning from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was a St. Andrew's Scholar. He was formerly vice president for conservation planning for the Natural Lands Trust and is now president of Greener Prospects, a land use consulting firm in Narragansett, Rhode Island. He is the author of Growing Greener Ordinance Language (Natural Lands Trust, 2001), and Conservation Design for Subdivisions (Island Press, 2001).

A simple blink is all it takes to yank Pru from the car with her dad into a world of hurt. She awakens in 2305 to find herself pinned under what's left of CHRONOS headquarters, thanks to a recent terrorist attack. Their prime suspect? Her mother, Katherine Shaw. And everyone wants to know how Pru got her hands on a CHRONOS key.

Pru is convinced that the key is the answer to all her problems. She'll use it to stop her mother, fix her relationship with Deb, and even restore CHRONOS, so that her new friend Tate can return to the job he loves.

She can't do it alone, however. Fortunately, she finds Saul Rand, and he's more than willing to help.

Wonderful, Keep Them Coming

The saga of the Chronos Files continues with this complex and entrancing novella. Any prospective reader will certainly want to read the earlier stories before reading this one. And, once you have finished this one, you'll be ready for October to come when the next and possibly the last will be available. I will also predict that you will want to have more stories told from some of the other character's viewpoints, i.e. those we have not yet seen.

I also hope that at some point in the not so distance time, all of the stories will be available in a single package - with a list of characters added after each story. In some respects Ms Walker's stories remind me of the Good Doctor's Foundation stories. I remember reading each of these as they became available and then I was able to reread them in a single book, which I still have.

I am a fan of Rysa Walker's stories!

A Must for Chronos Series Fans

I read and really enjoyed Time's Echo, the novella written from Kiernan's POV, and was equally impressed with Time's Mirror, the novella written from Pru's POV. Both novellas pack in a lot of information in such a tight space, giving us that "other side" of the story that we learned about in Timebound and Time's Edge. In the full-size novels, as well as Time's Echo, Pru is definitely the antagonist, although we did get glimpses that hers may be a complicated tale. In Time's Mirror Rysa Walker peels back the layers to reveal why this sad woman became who she was. It did get complicated with all the different versions of people, but it is time travel, a very complicated concept. If you are a fan of the Chronos Series, I would definitely recommend reading the two novellas, Time's Echo and Time's Mirror.

I really enjoyed reading this, but as with the other CHRONOS files books it left me wanting more.

New to Photography? This is REQUIRED IMHO!

I cannot say enough about how exceptional this book is, in instruction AND value!

If you cant understand exposure and the 3 parts of the exposure triangle you will never progress and you will always be somewhat lost. This book breaks it all down in small easy to retain steps with excellent color photos to illustrate exactly what they are talking about. I have below average reading comprehension due to age, health issues and just not being bright! I feel very strongly that if it got through to me, you will have great success. And heres the thing... Exposure is just one of the aspects of photography this book will teach you. Starting with equipment in the first chapter, to post production basics in the last chapter.

It covers EVERYTHING from understanding the different shooting modes, lenses, available light, flash, you name it.

I purchased this book along with my Canon SX50HS camera and I went from shooting auto to manual in one week and again, im a slow learner! Speaks volumes for this book.

I enjoyed the book so much i went back and read it in its entirety a month later. At that point I read "Stunning Digital Photography" which is an excellent EXCELLENT book in its own right, but Im glad I started with this book here.

I will be purchasing an enthusiasts level DSLR very soon and with that I plan to buy one of the companion books with my models name in the title (all available on Amazon).

I would also suggest giving your cameras manual a good reading if you havent done so.

In my opinion, if you want to have a good understanding of photography basics, you cant do better than starting with The Beginner's Photography Guide.

It is an excellent overview of the subject with enough detail and explanation to give you a solid foundation of the concepts of digital photography. Highly recommended for "Beginners" and even intermediate photographers can find it a useful refresher.
